When did the travel bug first bite you?

I took my first airplane ride at age two, I have no memory of that flight but my mother told anyone who would listen that I cried,,,, to get back on the airplane. The die was cast. But that is a whole story unto itself. From that point on I was obsessed with travel.–John

My father was career Army. We traveled a lot, to include Germany, Turkey and many of the US states. I loved it. –Miriam

 

When did you start riding motorcycles?

John purchased a used Kawasaki 250 in the late 70’s and drove it for years. Miriam first obtained her three wheel license in 2018.

 

What got you into motorcycle travel?

In 2006 John watched his favorite cooking show host Alton Brown of “Good Eats” do a cross country motorcycle mini series, riding across the U.S. in search of “Road Food” titled “Feasting on Asphalt. 

 

A few years later, Alton Brown did a sequel titled “Feasting on Asphalt—The River Run”. In 2007 John & Miriam watch the two mini series titled “Long Way Around” and “Long Way Down”. It stared Charlie Boorman and Ewan McGregor drive BMW’s around the world and from the top of Scotland to the bottom of South Africa.   And that die was cast.

 

Where do you call home?

John has been a resident of Virginia Beach even before it was Virginia Beach. Miriam moved to Virginia Beach from Newport News not long after she was hired by Virginia Beach City Government.

 

How long have you been together?

We met on Match.com in 2007 and started dating. Two years later we married.
